SÈTE

At the foot of Mont Saint Clair, which rises 183 m and is only joined to the land by two narrow bands of sand, Sète has a fishing and commercial port and a marina. The town is famed for its canals, its old port dating from 1666, its buildings with their colourful façades, its bridges, and more besides. The Royal Canal, the maritime gateway to the Canal du Midi, is a lively place in the summer when the jousting contests take place. CIRQUE DE NAVACELLES

This is the most prestigious site in the Vis valley, between the causses (limestone plateaux) of Blandas (Gard) and Larzac (Hérault), classified as the 15th Grand Site de France in 2017. It takes the form of an immense, magnificent meander, plunged deep between almost vertical walls. The Vis originally encircled a small promontory, later abandoning it, where the hamlet of Navacelles developed.
