Philippe is a self-proclaimed “provocateur of pleasure”. He is also a part of history, being the 3rd generation to head up the Auberge du Forgeron in Seclin. This self-taught, “very greedy” lover of all things food proudly upholds his family heritage, whilst also being firmly focused on the future. The menu of the hotel’s gourmet restaurant, which is well-known throughout the north of France, is evidence of this, combining traditional dishes with molecular gastronomy and a single philosophy: that taste is everything. “Each dish must provoke conversation, questions, and pleasure,” he says. The light hues against the Macassar ebony furniture create a cosy, warm, yet modern feel. Philippe does not just offer his guests a room, but a concept too: a bubble. Philippe is also a huge fan of golf. He will be able to advise you and book your green fee (entrance fee) at one of the two nearby golf clubs. One is in Thumeries: a pleasant 18-hole course which opened in 1932 and still retains its original features, this is a great green for experienced and beginner golfers alike. The other is in Mérignies, which opened in 2008 and offers 3 9-hole courses.
