Bubbles? This is the name given to the Grenoble cable car’s rounded pods. The first urban cable car in France (established in 1934), it hoists its passengers over the city for five minutes, terminating at the Bastille fortifications. Made entirely from glass, the “bubbles” offer unique panoramic views over Grenoble and its historic centre.
Built into the upper reaches of the Chartreuse mountains, the Bastille fort majestically overlooks Grenoble. Sitting at “The Round Table” means learning about and sharing a (long) page in the history of Grenoble. Dating back to 1739, this cafe is the oldest in the city and one of the oldest in France. Rousseau, Stendhal and Napoleon’s General, Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte, the future King of Sweden, once visited. During the Second World War, the back room of the establishment was also a meeting place for the Resistance.
