Patrice’s 3-star hotel guards the gates of Normandy. Modern and colourful, The Originals City, Hotel des Lys, Dreux welcomes you between Dreux and the countryside, ideally located a stone’s throw from the RN12 road, near the centre of Dreux and less than 1 hour from Paris. Patrice wanted this easily accessible hotel to be warm and friendly above all. “I like the contact with my guests,” he explains. “I want them to feel at home here.” Patrice has also put an emphasis on elegance, simplicity and the functional aspect of his hotel’s 51 rooms. The staff do everything to make sure guests’ check-in and stay go as well as possible. And all in a good mood, as shown by the colours that brighten up the whole hotel.

VISIT DREUX

Between Île-de-France and Normandy, Dreux is an appealing town with its pedestrian centre, overlooked by the royal chapel where the Orléans family is interred. The tombs and recumbent statues make it a real museum of 19th century sculpture. Take a walk around the town where you can also admire the wonderful 16th century belfry and the charming Place Métézeau. Wander around the Marcel-Dessal Art and History Museum to see the works of Claude Monet, Maurice de Vlaminck, Pierre Eugène Montézin and Henri Le Sidaner.

ANET CASTLE

Only the west wing remains of this charming castle built from 1548 for Diane de Poitiers, King Henri II’s mistress. However, you will be surprised by the entrance gate featuring a clock above it with a stag kept at bay by four dogs, and by the chapel. With its dome covered in trompe-l’œil boxes, this is a real architectural gem of the French Renaissance, designed by Philibert Delorme. To the left of the castle, a funeral chapel holds Diane de Poitiers’ remains.

CHARTRES CATHEDRAL

Rodin called it ‘France’s Acropolis’ and it is a real gem of European Gothic art. Chartres cathedral is known all over the world for its architectural unity, the beauty of its two tall spires (106m and 115m) and its jamb statues. You can also admire the sculptured gates and wonderful stained glass windows from the 12th and 13th centuries which are the most important collection in France. For 800 years the cathedral has opened its large ambulatory and huge transept to pilgrims.
